I was reading a bit today in between a run to the pond/farm, and standard family Sunday stuff and came across an article about Golden Shiners that mentioned them spawning in/on riprap. This was new info to me and thought I would double check to see if anybody has experience with this. My understanding of their spawning preferences were all basically organic (grass, weeds, FA, mats, straw....) with a brief mention in one post about shag carpet. I had read a little about the occasional spawning in BG and LMB nests "while in the neighborhood" but rip rap was completely new info to me.

Any of you pros out there ever hear or have experience with GSH spawning on riprap?

I would suspect if they are in an area of riprap, they may actually be laying eggs targeted at the FA growing on the rocks.
Suppose anything is possible.
Most growers use either spawntex mat or carpet segments of some sort.

When I have fished from the dams on large Kansas reservoirs, the riprap ALWAYS has growth on the rocks.

(The only exceptions I have observed are when the lake was at flood stage or massively drawn down during a drought.)

Also, there are typically some sticks caught in the rocks from past floods. In the spring, when the water levels rise, these sticks, and other stuck flotsam like litter, go back underwater and start forming growth substrates. Also there are annual weeds in some places (like sunflowers) where the stalks may go underwater in the spring.

That creates a lot of substrates for algae to form at a wide variety of densities. I suspect the GSH could find some spawning habitat among that wide range of options?

I am sure your dam is much cleaner than the dam at a public reservoir, but that is what I have observed at the big dams.
