Mine are planted in full sun. The soil where they are growing is ~8" loam topsoil over clay pan. I dug the planting holes ~24" diameter x 16" deep and mixed plenty of compost into the soil when I backfilled. I've fertilized twice this season with a quart of 13-13-13 spread around the base of each tree. In my (very limited) experience with this species it's important to be semi-consistent with the watering. They don't like to dry out to the point of wilting, and they REALLY don't like being over-watered.
