And I thought I had it rough today because I mowed (no cab on mower) over 3 different ground nesting Yellow Jacket nests.......

I once saw a similar event on the golf course.

I hear a loud thump behind me, and turn to the sound, and see a big hognose snake(?) on the roof of the little bathroom building. As I am trying to figure out how the heck that happened, a big red-tailed hawk hits the roof of the building after the snake. However, she can't get her claws under the snake because of the hard shingles.

Finally, they both kind of work their way down to the gutter. There the hawk gets a good grip on the snake. She launches off of the roof, and almost hits the ground, but finally starts gaining altitude with her great prize.

Awesome cell phone video material - but I was too mesmerized watching it unfold to even attempt to get my phone out of my bag!

Ya just cant make this stuff up!

She is actually extremely lucky to have an arm tore up like that,, if a poisonous snake was wrapping itself around my arm and a hawk fighting with it, I probably wouldn't have an arm left,, Ida amputated the damn thing on the spot, or stuck it under the mower deck and let whoever survives that be the winner. one of us aint gonna come outta this in one piece!

Had a dead rabbit land on my windshield in the dark one morning on my way to work. Assumed an owl dropped it.

Stay out from underneath the rattlesnake trees, and wear a Falconer's glove when outside.

Shouldn't we find a good Pond Boss advertiser that sells rattlesnake trees?

I am thinking they would be pretty effective for the people that have problems with cormorants and anhinga! Not to mention the giant GBH nests, the rattlers could definitely clear out those fish assassins when they are up in the trees.

They could be useful against Poachers, too.

We do have a pair of eagles, so if they could be trained to drop water moccasins, rattlesnakes, and snapping turtles on the poachers...

Sadly, that probably wouldn't work (A lesson I learned sending Catalpa seeds to Meadowlark many years ago). Up here we have Northern Rattlesnake Trees (although they mostly just grow Copperheads); what you need to handle Texas' climate is the Southern Rattlesnake Tree variety.

Better get Snipe started on a program to breed some hybrids that will have more vigor and still survive in Texas.
