Hi all,
I just installed a new system in my 3 1/2 acre pond. We've been having pretty severe suspended algae through the summers and the muck is pretty thick around the edges. Visibility is typically about 18 inches and the pond is about 50 years old.
Couple of questions: The algae seems worse since I started up the system. Is that part of the process or just coincidence? Generally, what differences will I notice and how long before I notice them? I understand all ponds are different, but I mostly wondering what to expect as the system does its thing.

Sounds like you installed an aeration system.
The best thing for "algae" control is nutrient management.

Aeration can IMO be a double edged sword. It helps digest organic muck while decomposition adds nutrients to the ecosystem. More nutrients stimulate plant growth of all types. What types of plants grow depends on the conditions in the pond/lake.
