I am considering using Aluminum Sulfate as a phosphate binder to try to reduce my algae problems. My main problem is with Chara that has taken over my .66 acre pond. My pond was constructed with a poly liner and is just over four years old. Water clarity is good. The bottom is now covered with sludge and Chara. Has anyone with a similar situation had success with Aluminum Sulfate? My deepest section is 8 ft deep and the pond averages 4'.

Yes, that will work, but you should kill the Chara first and let it decompose to get the most amount of dissolved P in the water before you use Alum to bind it. You will have to mitigate the pH drop with hydrated lime.
