I have found if you buy cheap hotdogs and cut into 1" pieces and feed your cats on a regular basis they will get very used to eating them. When you want to harvest some toss a few pieces out and then put one on a hook with no weight and toss it to the same area they will take it readily. This also will help if you want to release some and catch it later I have landed the same fish multiple times.
