As my re-dug pond is filling, I took soil samples from about the expected 7 foot depth (max pond depth expected to be 15 ft). I took about 10 samples from around the pond perimeter and mixed them together. I sent the sample to a commercial lab for a basic test with texture analysis. (Michigan State University used to do soil samples for residents at low/no cost, but that program is suspended for some reason).

Attached are the results. As the pond was excavated, a lot of peat and woody debris came up, so I am not surprised by the amount of organic matter and "loam" classification. I took a gallon jar sample of pond water and it looked very clear to my eye. I thought it would be muddy, but it was not. The pond is filling nicely since December.

Anything else to glean from the test results as indicator of water and fish health? pH? K, Mg, Ca? Anything about total alkalinity in this data?
