I didn't weigh them and released them. I have too much stuff in the fridge now.
I tell the Boy Scouts that the easiest place to carry your water and food is in your belly.
If those trout had gone from the pond to the frying pan to your belly, then your fridge would have been none the worse off!
(And from the look of those trout, your belly would have been quite happy.)
I have venison, prime rib and a freshly made antipasto type salad in the fridge. Lots to cook/eat right there.
I have stocked trout before at 2# each, and while I wasn't feeding them as much as I am doing now, from late Oct to the 4th of July they grew to 24" and 7#. Trying to break that record this year, hopefully by the end of May.

One of my favorite things on Pond Boss is reading the posts and seeing the pictures where people have broken pond records or even state records!
Went fishing and caught quite a few fatties including a 7+ and a 5+ that I transferred to a neighbors pond. Have never seen the fish of all sizes this fat. Had an inch of rain and it came fast so pond came up a bit but it muddied up the whole thing…. Still caught fish in 12” Visibility….
Nice fish Pat. Just curious, but has the spikerush died back? If so, I wonder if disappearing cover threw the forage to the lions.

These stockers have to get eaten or removed from the pond by the end of June (at the latest) or they will die due to higher water temps.

That might be what is happening, went fishing today and caught 3 over 7# and a bunch 2# and up all fat . Also 6 crappies on 3-1/2” pearl cane thumper/with flashy swimmer. Had several other large bass on and lost them at the bank. My daughter said “ Dad you got a kick .ss bass pond”

But first I need to find some nightcrawlers. I had three boxes of them in the garage fridge, but they froze solid when the outside temps fell below zero and stayed there for a few days.

Are you harvesting only YP? Do you have specific lengths you are taking? How many, if you don’t mind my asking. And how are you catching them? Thanks Augie. I was up at our pond last week. Iced over with pretty thick ice, but 70 degrees today, I imagine it’s opening up.
12 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep. RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (decreasing), SMB, and HSB (only two have been seen in 5 yrs) I think that's about all I should put in my little pond. Otter attack in 2023.
This winter/spring will be the first for YP harvest from my pond. Any sub-9" BG/HBG and any/all HSB that are brought to hand will also be removed.
The YP were stocked in the fall of '19. 200 fingerling and 70 plus-size. I catch plenty of young ones in my traps so I know they're successfully reproducing.
Intent would be to remove 50-ish in the 8"-10" size range. I know they're in there, I just need to figure out how to catch em.

I don't think so. Last weekend we looked at some pictures from a camera my friend put out and we seen 7 bucks together but we also seen what he said was a bully buck that might of ran off a bigger buck that was hanging out at my property. Here is a few pictures from today, would of been real nice bucks in another year or so.

Can you get a tag from the DNR to keep them (or should I ask do you need a tag from the DNR if you want to keep them)? A friend of my neighbors found a pair that were bigger than that in a ditch, dead. They maybe had been dead a week or less. The one that was locked inside the bigger one had a 4.5" main beam circumference not 4" from the end of the beam. Both were monsters. He got a tag and they are now at the Taxi being turned into a European Mount.

My friend called them and they told him they will send him 2 tags. He was planning European but his Taxidermist said he would like to try full shoulder mounts and would cut him a deal.
I was working at the same location in SW Kansas all week. Saw a group of whitetails with a nice 8-pt buck and five does. His neck was still enlarged, or he was just that stout?
Also saw a group of mule deer several evenings. That group also consisted of one buck and five does.
Does only one buck in each group mean the deer are still in the rut? Or that hunters selectively harvested a lot more bucks?
In past years I have seen rutting behavior (rut = chasing/breeding does) in October thru January. It all depends when a particular doe comes into estrus. BUT the majority of the rut happens in late October or early November, depending on the moon cycle that particular year.
