I see similarities to Pumpkinseed, redear and orange spotted sunfish. My guess is a possible hybrid.

Yeah, I agree with Snipe. Most likely not any kind of pure northern bluegill.

If you want to get super technical, and save all your good water for only your desired species, I would not continue stocking these fish. But in the end, I also wouldn't say you've done massive damage to your plans for your new pond.

"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

I also agree with Snipe and Sunil. These are some type of hybrid BG and to me they do not have a lot of if any green sunfish in the genetics. with good pellet feeding they might grow well to be 8"-9" sunfish. Because they were taken from a pond that had crowded or overcrowded fish they could have some degree of stunting. Their apparent slightly too large of eyes also suggests some amount of growth stunting. Also because of them being hybrids they might not have a 50:50 blend of males:females. If they are mostly males the amount of offspring produced could be lower.

Please return occasionally to show us what they look like as they grow the next several years. This assumes they are not old fish and near the end of life.
It would be nice and convenient if you could find this thread to continue here with the new pictures. By next year of 2023 this time they should be 2" longer.

I've been catching several fish that look like this through the ice this year and they don't look like the GSF or BG completely, but they have characteristics of each and oh I didn't mention this, but they are from a wild lake in my area that has both BG and GSF existing in there.. Will these two cross on their own in the wild? No PS in this area that I know of but they sure have a different look to them than either pure species... And I've never seen fish that looked like these before this year, but I have caught four or five, all in the same area...Also catching BG that look like pure strain fish and GSF that look like pure strain fish through the same hole in the ice... Interested in knowing what they are... Later Jeff
