Thanks FR. I would like to get a variety of different plantings in place to attract deer year round.
Our conservation guys have a couple of no till drills to rent or use. Unfortunately they are both too big for my little tractor. I’ll be paying a local farmer to plant the CRP this spring. I can have up to .9 ac of foodplot in my 9 ac CRP fields also. So, I intend to do that.
Im trying to keep keep costs reasonable, so I’d like to do as much as I can myself. From my readings, I get the impression that deer prefer more of a enclosed feeding area. At least for a food plot. That’s why I was thinking of the tall grass around the edges. Then a variety of plantings inside. I’m hoping I can get decent germination by broadcast spreading of seed then cultivating or just dragging something over the seed. I don’t want to get into renting a no till drill if I can avoid it. Not sure I can find one for a small tractor anyway.
