I have built a pond that will be about 1.2 acres once it fills up. Now it has about 1' to 3' of water and it is very dirty. I had all the ground and dam hydromulched and the grass is about a foot tall but it doesn't go down to the water line. Like everybody with a new pond, I would like to start introducing fish, Is it too early to add some flathead minnows and mabye some bream? I am located just north of Houston in lower Grimes county.

Yes, I would add a few pounds of fathead minnows (just to be sure, not 'flat' head minnows).
You could also introduce Bluegill, but I wanted to ask what you think the surface area is of the 1-3' deep water. If it's not even a 1/10 of an acre, I might wait another few weeks for rain. If it is that small right now, maybe stock a lesser amount of Bluegill now and more after you get more water.

It won’t hurt to add some fatheads but I’m not sure what you will gain in muddy water.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Have you limed the pond? Lime will help to clear the water, but time will help clear things also. Adding fatheads will help establish biological activities

No I have not added any lime. I've got about 10' of exposed clay all the way around the pond between the edge of the grass and the water level. I think if I added lime now the next time it rained It would just muddy up again. But maybe not. I've never done this before. Will the lime clear up the new muddy water as it is washed in?

I think it is at last 1/10 of an acre. When I add the flathead minnows and some bluegill should I start feeding them?

If the water still pretty murky when you add the minnows & fingerling BG it would be best to crush up some fish fish food and add about 2 Tablespoons per day along with a couple tablespoons of whole pellets. Do not buy a whole bag of fish food just for this. Ask to buy 1/2 to 1 gallon of fish pellets from wherever you get the fish. then next year when pond is full buy a whole bag of fish food and use the fresh food to feed the new fish that are stocked.

It should help clear it up after rains. Probably need to take a water sample to Overtons and see what your water condition is…. Mine was muddy until I limed it then began to clear up
