Hi Luke,
Catfish are pretty disease free critters, so I wouldn't worry. Keep an eye on the population and don't worry unless it becomes widespread.
It may be nothing more than fighting with another catfish, running into something, or rooting on the bottom for food. I had a 5 pounder on a stringer one time and a big one had him almost swallowed until I scared him off. There was blood in the water.
