My pong is about 1/2 an acre and is plum full of lilly pads. The water is 1-5 ft. deep. I don't want to walk out and pull them by hand because there are alligators, and even if I do, they will grow back. Please help!!

Luke,
A couple of options, Drain the pond and have them excavated. Expensive, time consuming, and may not solve the problem. Second, there are chemical options. Hopefully some of the experts will chime in, just be patient. Several replies may pop up overnight, as many don't have the chance to be on until the kids get off the computer!

David - HABITAT aquatic herbicide, topically applied, has been a very effective control-measure for various lily species. It is very capable of providing excellent root control on treated lilies, unlike several alternative treatments. Plus, you may selectively target some areas while leaving others unaffected, if so desired. Be sure to tank-mix a quality surfactant (wetting agent) with the HABITAT treatment if you decide to try this option. KD Do a search under Controlling unwanted plants for lots of info.

 I might try chemicals, because the pond is too big to drain.  I didn't make it clear...my side of the pond is 1/2 ac. but the whole pond is appx. 3 ac. Today I went out in my boat and saw that some of the pads are dying for some reason.....they are wilting, turning brown, and growing algea (dying)....is this good?

Luke - maybe your neighbor beat you to the punch. It doesn't sound normal for lilies to be dying on their own at this time of the season. BTW, where is your pond located; since that detail isn't mentioned?

The pond in is in Tallahassee, Florida. Yes, I thought aabout that...the people that already live on the lake might have sprayed some chemicals on it.
The flies just love those dead lily's!
