I think if you have time I would rake out the floating algae. It has nutrients incorporated into the filaments. Removing the algae will result in fewer nutrients in the pond when the algae decomposes. Big masses of decaying algae will produce organic sludge on the bottom. Big masses of decaying algae on the bottom has no benefit to the pond.
