I am thinking of doing the same to my pond. Better to do it during the winter where you are, that is also somewhat closer to the dry season than now, is it not?

To aerate a shallow area, it's better to use an agitator than a bottom diffusion aeration system. A paddlewheel, a volcano type agitator, etc.
