I agree get a handle on it now. I had a 1 acre pond covered with it and got rid of it. I used a product named Clipper and added a surficant . (spelling) It's a granular that is mixed with water to dissolve in a hand pump sprayer along with the surficant. The surficant helps it to stay on the top of the water where the watermeal is.
