Does anyone know of a source for camo overalls that do not include light colors? I know this is all the rage with modern customers, but my experience and success leads me to favor the older style camo with dark colors that matches the tree trunk that I sit against. I have tried Google and even though I include "-bib" in my "shopping" search, and specify "verbatim", most of what comes up are bibs and none of the coveralls exclude bright white patches.

After photographing a couple patterns that I have and like, I realize that they look a lot brighter in the photos than they do in real life. I guess I need to go to a store rather than buying online. Unfortunately, the "sporting goods" stores around here have mostly become fashion clothing stores for the would-be sportsman. I guess that is the market, and I am outdated.

This pattern is pretty good. Just need to find it in a hunting coverall without the black wear patches. The other one posted has the new white strips that can be clearly seen when you zoom in. If they would leave the white out of this pattern, it would be quite good:

People who don't hunt wear them around town. "Look at me, I'm outdoorsy" LOL.

Guess we are just lucky to do the real thing. I'll be pulling my dark camo fleece shirt and pants over the faded coveralls for another season.

Worked well as always. Another big doe in the barn. Now I am just trophy hunting. Looks like I have pretty close to the desired 2:1 doe to buck ratio that I have been going for.

We have wasting disease here. Our veterinarian told me about three years ago that he personally would not touch a local deer anymore. I think overcrowding contributes to the wasting disease. Cannot grow a garden here, even in town, unless fenced, due to the deer population. Twenty years ago, you could pretty much grow a garden anywhere in the suburbs without a problem.

We have the same problem here with CWD. It was first discovered in Illinois near Roscoe which is only 15 miles from me. The state has hired sharpshooters the last several years to thin the deer population. Last I heard, they remove 25/year in each square mile. The meat is all tested and the healthy meat goes to local food pantries. We are talking thousands and thousands of pounds of venison going to the food pantries. Last report is that thinning the herds has reduced the percentage of infected deer significantly.

This is part of the reason to cut the local herd by 75% in last few years. The second reason is related to taking the stupid young bucks by some locals that works against my herd goals. Luckily, my place is a haven for deer so I have more control that my acreage might indicate. Just like managing a pond. We have had no local disease issues, but they are not far away.

A lot cheaper than my old ones but the zipper gave out after a lot of years of good service. Not the color that I wanted but I hope they are warm. May need to put on a cover suit on top to hide the bright colors. I'll report back. Will need to layer this evening.

You can always wash them with a brown dye to darken them some. You might be able to put dye in a spray bottle to control it a little better.

Maybe tumble them with some black walnut husks... Would add a cover scent too!

I wish these were still available. My first set wore out and I'd love another.

X2 on the soaking them with black walnut husks for a while....that'll darken up ANYTHING. Just be careful not to leave them in too long, or you'll have black overalls.

Many years ago, i bought some dye and added my own version of ASAT camo to some regular carhart coveralls. The dye diluted and faded pretty fast. Had to be careful what one washed them with for some time otherwise the other clothes would have brown, green, black tinges. Ultimately, wasn't worth it.

I think the best darkness, patterns, etc depends upon the view the animals have. If you're up in a tree skylined, some light may prevent you from looking like a big dark scary object. If you have a dark background, that white might stand out like crazy. My wife went deer hunting the first time last yesr with a Ravin R26. She had good camo with a lightweight leafy camo suit (with the leaf cutouts that flutter) over top of it. Had deer within 10 feet of her for some time. Obviously, wind was favorable and she didn't make sudden moves; but she was sitting on a tripod folding chair on the ground!

I took my limit on deer this year. The Ravin crossbows are very nice and I love mine. My repaired TenPoint sits on the shelf (limbs delaminated). I especially like being able to decock the Ravin without firing a bolt. I was not happy with customer service from TenPoint and that drove my decision to go with Ravin. No regrets yet. Took 4 does with it all within 15 yards. Actually took my buck with the 270 at about 7 yards. My muzzleloader doe was the only long shot at 85 yards. I was sitting on the ground inside a cedar tree for that one. I agree that there are times when dark camo is not the best choice, but I like to use it in many situations.

Good shooting RAH! I hopped around in a few different counties and got an even dozen. Kept 2, gave the rest away. (one county is a deer reduction zone) Love the lifetime license.

Wow - That is a lot of deer. I only hunt at home, but I am not complaining. Recently upgraded to a 270 win but have not yet taken a shot over 15 yards with it. Inside of 15 yards, they don't go far. I like my Ruger 44 mag, but much prefer the 270. With the Ravin crossbow, I could probably max out with it if the rules allowed. They could certainly simplify things if they tried a little, but maybe simplicity is not the goal... Hunting morels right now. This is a nice time of year here in Indiana!

That was during gun and muzzleloader season in 4 different counties, plus a State Park Hunt. An accurate .243 and a Savage .45 cal Muzzleloader for private ground, a .450 Bushmaster for the park hunt. Didn't have any chances during archery season. Even had the daughter of the guy that processes my deer ask if I could get her a doe.

Thinning the herd is a good idea with all the diseases coming in. I really enjoy the archery season. Its a lot quieter. Although, I still hear the suspicious gun shots at dusk and dawn. Must be squirrel hunters...

Illinois is shotgun, muzzleloader, handgun (no semi, straightwalled, etc), archery only for deer.

My 8 year year old son got his first deer last year. About 80 yards, through the heart with savage 220 20 gauge with leupold firedot scope. Proud of his shot. Even prouder of judgement he used in ensuring had clean shot and no others behind it that might get hit (were several in soybean field).

A well placed shot is always something to be proud of, especially when made by young hunters. Keep up the good mentoring! Indiana recently allowed high-power rifles (I use a 270 Win now), and so far no one has shot me. Earlier they started allowing pistol-caliber rifles.
