I also disagree on the minnows...fatheads. They are very worthwhile in jump starting your predator fish. The fatheads generally prefer deeper water but in my ponds get chased to the shallows for safety. I don't know catfish very well, but doubt that 6 inch cats can clean out those fatheads. More likely it is the dreaded water turkeys who love fatheads and any other small fish.
I recommend you consider restocking the fatheads and establish a regular daily, at least morning and evening, feeding program. The water turkeys should be gone North for now and the fatheads would be a relatively cheap investment.
