Just heard from the people that are renting my place. Ice is almost off, just a few icebergs floating. No dead fish and a few trout rising already. That makes 194 days of ice cover, last year was 196 days. Still lots of ice up here at my new place. Nice to see spring finally.

YUCK! My kids were jumping off the dock last weekend and swimming in th pond. Glad to hear all is well with the pond would love to be able to have trout here but we only have one river that will sustain them in Alabama good thing it is only about 50 miles from the house so I can still go fly fishing.

Here in central Ontario we are still waiting for the water to soften, a bit of open water around the north shores of some lakes where the sun reflects off the rock or near the in and outlets. We had 16" of white stuff still in a lot of spots in the bush but I made it back to my pond on the ATV for the first time since I took the tracks off last week-end. Lots of spring melt flowing in from the hills, in fact I have never seen the pond that high. (my ponds only water source is rain water and when I started it would dry up about August, then I would dig deeper. Now it holds water in the deep holes all year) By the afternoon the pond is 20% ice free but it freezes up each night. All this should soon change as there is no more frost called for in the next 4 days, highs of 19-20deg C are coming.(we hope)Pat

Wood - Ice has been off ponds in NW Ohio since Mar 4-6. Water temps have been fluxuating between 46F to 58F since March 31. Walleye spawn is almost over in rivers whereas in LkErie walleye spawn is still in early stages. Y.perch in small ponds are midway to 2/3rds through their spawn this year- 2005.
