I'm in the final stages of installing a syphon. Are there any suggestions on how to make the intake? It's a 6" pipe. I was going to do a 22.5% angle at the end and do a 3 ft section with 1" holes drilled in the pipe. I really can't find examples or intakes for purchase for 6". BTW: The best publication on syphons I have found is a Clemson graduate paper. https://tigerprints.clemson.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2846&context=all_thesesRequest to Pond Boss Readers: Please make a duck box for your pond. It's great entertainment and will help restore wood duck numbers!

You could use something like this on the intake side to prevent something large from getting sucked in and plugging the system (like a turtle). https://www.agridrain.com/shop/c52/bar-guards,-standard/

Request to Pond Boss Readers: Please make a duck box for your pond. It's great entertainment and will help restore wood duck numbers! On an aside, I am reminded of the Summer we had a nice family of Mallards at our LMB pond. Every time I saw them, there were fewer ducklings. The last night they were there, my wife and I watched LMB eat the last duckling and then try to pull the hen under water for the best part of a minute before she got free. Perhaps "build a duck box on ponds where ducks have a decent chance to grow up" would be better.

Use a Tee on the inlet with 5 foot long sections to lay flat on the bottom...For a 6 inch pipe or larger, you should drill 3 inch holes to allow leaf debris to easily flow in. You can cap and drill the ends of the Tee'd pipes, or I use expanded aluminum mesh. The larger holes will not clog..1 inch holes will clog with leaves. The larger holes and the TEE do not allow larger branches to get in the siphon that will get caught in the pipe bends (if something can get past a 90 degree angle, it will get expelled at the outlet)
