Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Creating the food chain Threadfin stocking - which would you choose?

I am in NE Texas and have determined that my newly acquired lake would be a great fit for threadfin shad. The fish farm has given me 2 options on stocking, and I was hoping to get some input from others who have been in my shoes before. I am hoping to stock well once and establish a nice population, not having to restock every year.

My lake is 35 acres and has a healthy bass population already, so he has given me the option (for the same money) to stock 250 adult threadfins 3"-6" long per acre at 50 cents a fish in March/April....or stock 500 juvenile threadfins 1.5" - 2.5" in July for 20 cents a fish.

I am leaning towards the adult stocking since they theoretically could get after spawning quicker and would be harder to predate such a large percentage of the population.

Has anyone seen this work out in favor of one option versus another?
