Does anyone have experience working with Oswald Fisheries, based out of Ellendale, MN? I know they do alot of stuff in southern MN and eastern SD. They stock fish and sell all sorts of baitfish. I believe they also work with the MN dnr.

They have a strain of YP from a canal on the east cost. Apparently these perch were cut off from the river and have evolved to grow to large sizes quickly. He said that he has 3yr old perch that weigh 1lb. Has anyone else heard of perch like this? Has anyone bought perch from Oswald Fisheries?

Thanks

I haven't but I'm not from Minnesota. Although possibly not the case be aware there are all kinds of claims made in this industry, and it has it's share of charletons. Some are as bad as used car salesman. Not saying this is the case as I don't know the outfit. Also keep in mind getting fish from another region may make them less adaptable to your region and latitude, which could make them less likely to perform as well in your area.

1 lb. in three years is not that big of deal for a domesticated perch. It's much better than a wild perch of course, but not earth shattering in a pond especially if they are feed trained and fed. My perch grow that fast and they are a simple Lake Erie strain, and as far as I know they are not on feed even though they are feed trained.

I get mine in the spring at about 9 inches just under 2 years of age (about 5 1/2 ounces), and by fall they are 12 to 16 ounces at 10.5 to 12 inches. And that's still under 3 years of age by about 6 months.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Thanks for the info cecil. I don't think that these fish are actualy "domesicated" or being fed. I am glad to hear that this is a reasonable claim.
