John, after years of frustration I'm thrilled for you to see a heavy rain month and to see you have hope that the old 'leaker' pond might just look full for a little while.

I would but it's still raining. I hope Bobbss in east Missouri gets some good rain on his relatively parched watershed. If it keeps this up, my old pond will be over the overflow in a couple hours. Putting on a rain jacket to go look.

Edit: Still raining. Old pond lacks 3 inches to overflow, rising rapidly. More rain coming. I suspect it will run over in less than three hours, which means it will merge with my forage pond about an inch deep, necessitating a draining and restart of that pond next year due to small BG and LMB migrating into it. There's probably 10,000 gambusia in it now, plus 10 Koi that I am growing out enough to save from predation. I wonder if Koi migrate downstream?

John, I am now 4 ft low. Need big rains bad. Even if it does screw up deer season

My old pond was about 33 inches low at one point back in the summer.

Your rains will eventually come.

John, still no good rain here. I had just under 1" for all of September, and I'll have to check my log book (it's in my truck), but I think I'm at around 1.5" for October so far. I'm hoping for some on Saturday. I hope I get a good one soon, so I can see if the work I had done to my watershed is going to help much.

Still raining here. Haven't looked at ponds this morning, bet they are all over the outflow, even the leaker.

We are at 35� YTD. Right at the 10 yr average. 90 mi south in St Louis 54� way above average. Pond is down 2� as we haven�t had much rain for the last two or three months. My leak is still there, but very slow. I�m not sure, but I think the trees May take as much as the leak does. See the drop on the dam behind me. Caught a SMB on Sunday (released). A few other SMB, but 99% HBG.. My grandson can row that boat around the pond for hours. He came over to watch me catch the SMB.


Pic also shows the drop. This used to drive me crazy. I wanted 100% full all the time. Now I�m just, �it is just going to do what it�s going to do.� Ha!

I hear ya Setterguy. 6ft low here. .75" rain yesterday all soaked in.

Oh that's seems crazy for this year (SE KANSAS). Ever since I decided to draw down my pond in 2018 I dont think its stopped rain here. Just put a tractor along the bank. It's like a modern day rain dance. I swear it works lol.

I've decided to pretty much let my ponds do what they are going to do also. But, they are all full this afternoon, and it finally stopped raining at least for a bit. The old pond did not get overfull, thankfully, so did not quite merge with the forage pond. The barrier between them worked.

I was wrong, I'm only at 1.35" so far this month. They say I should get 1"-2" tomorrow. Probably won't help a lot, as dry as it has been, but it all helps.
John, you're ponds look good.

I do believe any hunter would be proud of him. Very nice good luck finding him.

We have had another 1.29 inches rain. Everything is completely soaked. The ponds all reached an all time high, but the rain has now moved out but for a lingering mist, so no breaching disasters pending. The barrier to larger fish between the forage pond and old pond has held up, and I have seen no migration of fry between ponds or out the spillways. I guess they don't migrate much with fall floods. We've received 12.17" rain here so far this month. Might be a record October.

I'm transferring the next two weeks rainfall to Bobbss and SetterGuy.

We are also getting rain, but we have been dry and welcome the rain.

It's been dry here for the last couple of weeks. Water temps are in the low 50s, I did catch two RES last night. Earlier the week I stocked a small number of 6-8" walleye.

Ha John. Thanks. It came to St Louis instead. We received another inch in St Louis, but .1� up at the farm. All the farmers are in full harvest mode up by our place. They are hoping it stays dry. Our beans have been combined. I�m hoping he gets winter wheat in soon. It�s crazy though how much different the two places are in regards to rainfall, and 90 miles apart.

SetterGuy, depending on where you are in NW Arkansas, in October we received from 11 inches to 19 inches of rain. Well over 12 inches here at my ponds. That's roughly 260 miles SSW of your place, straight line distance.

I ended up with 1.10", and it was a slow soaker, so not much help as far as raising the pond level.

Received 4.1 inches of rain from Friday Morning until Sunday Morning. 85 miles NE of St. Louis south of Brownstown, IL.

I was surprised to see a few tadpoles still around the edge of the pond this morning. No minnow activity or reaction to hand thrown feed either, but it was 35F here also. Seen large three toed tracks along pond edge and in water also, there must be a GBH shopping for groceries along with the plethora of raccoons by the number of tracks.

Refilled four feeders. Fish responded well to three of them, kinda inactive at the fourth. Bigger CNBG, LMB, and HSB seemed to dominate more than usual, smaller CNBG and LMB were scarce. Eaten, gone deep, not sure, but I do know that weeds have retreated a lot so maybe they got flushed out & met an untimely end.

Delighted to see duck potato flourishing in a few spots along with am pondweed. My devious drawdown plans had a setback when it turned out we got left with a device to open the valve that didn't fit! Recent rains kept BOW at full pool and water running out of top of standpipe, a good sign.

Low Temps supposed to hit freezing later this week. It will be interesting to see if the TP survive. Previous experience has shown that they don't all die on the same day, some apparently hold out longer than others. I'd enjoy netting a few for a fish feast!
