ANYONE OUT THERE EVER BUILD A SAFE WORKING FISH SHOCKER / SAMPLER? MY SISTER THREW OUR OLD HILLBILLY FISHING MAGNETO INTO THE OPEN WELL BECAUSE WE SHOCKED HER ONCE TOO OFTEN WITH IT. AFTER 40 YEARS SHE FINALLY ADMITTED SHE DEEP SIXED IT. I WOULD LIKE TO GET A SET OF PLANS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR A FISH SAMPLER. I PROMISE I WILL NOT USE IT ON MY LITTLE BUT OLD SISTER.

Ponca City,

Back on Dec. 27, I believe, there was discussion concerning this subject. Some of the pros, including "The Pro", weighed in on this subject.

If you do a search for "fish shockers" you will find several other discussions.

Convential opinion is leave shocking to the pros.

We have discussed this issue in depth. Bottom line, we don't endorse the use of home made electrofishing devices by private land owners. We discourage it. Pour a few amps of electricity in water, stir, and you have a dangerous opportunity. Plus, if one doesn't completely understand the dynamics of fish populations, and is able to evaluate data, electrofishing is not particularly useful. It ain't a toy, fellers.
