Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Cattail cleaning.......fun?

I spent the weekend selectively cutting and clearing some of my cattails. Its been a warm winter in SW Florida and the water was perfect. Carved some new fishing lanes and kept in check some of the thicker stands. My question.........as I was doing this, splashing around, chopping, listening and watching various fish, I was having fun in my pond.....does that sound a little weird?

Not weird at all....in my all-to-often internet readings, I found the following quote, "True Masters say it's cool when you look at someone and don't know whether they are at work or play since it's all the same to them." Lest I embarrass myself greatly and lose any respect I may have had on this site, I won't tell you where the quote is from, but I think it rings true.

Robert Heinlein said "Happiness consists of being allowed to work hard for long hours at something you love" (or words to that effect). I bet most of us on this forum love our ponds, even during cattail control duty.

The definition of �Hard Work� really depends on what you�re comparing it to. I would say you would be weird if you weren�t having fun. Those that don�t understand the fun of hard work don�t understand the glory of accomplishments only the pain of do it. They�re also the ones that say �It can�t be done.� and the only truth in that is that it can�t be done by them.
I'm with you on this. This weekend I'll be clearing paths throw our woods which brings a smile to my face just thinking about it.
