My pond filled up last winter. It's located east central KS. Made a huge stocking mistake, this 3 acre used to be a 1 acre pond. I caught bass out of it and put in a hole I made in the upper end. I have a lot of healthy bass. The bass I caught ar feeding on bass. The water is very clear, we could see our toes in the water when floating in a life preserver. Also have 3 15'tall by 15' wide by 30'long brush piles in the far side. Deepest spot is 24.5'. Plan to add a lot of bluegill and crappy soon? web page

Z, your place looks beautiful. Thanks for posting the pictures.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying about a stocking mistake, and enlarging the pond, the bass eating other bass, and having a lot of healthy bass.

Could you clarify that at all?

Thanks.

This site had a pond 1/3 this size, and it had bass.
I made a small pond above the old pond that is
underwater now. (you can see the shallow area this
side of the dock, that was the dam of the small pond I built). As I drained the old pond I caught
bass and put them in this small pond.
When I got the big pond built it filled up and
engulfed the small pond. The small pond was
loaded with bass.
This spring you could see schools of small bass
from the shore.
Have added some fathead minnows since, think they
were lunch.
The bass I caught this summer were healthy. Several of them had bass in their stomachs. A few
of them had crawdads. Didn't find anything else.
So I don't think I have any baitfish in the pond.

You will find lots of information on our site. The first concern you have is to establish a long term food chain. Bluegill are the backbone of the food chain for largemouth bass. Since you have no bluegill, I recommend 100-200 adult bluegill per surface acre. Be sure they are bluegill, not "hybrid bluegill." Bluegill are the only fish which can keep up enough reproduction to sustain a healthy bass population. Next, study the benefits of fertilization, aeration, diversifying the food chain, etc. You will find plenty of info here.

Thanks for the resposes, called Wallace fish farm in
Allen Ks. His recomendation was the same as Bob's.
Has anyone tried or seen a basement or room built
that has observation windows into the pond? Like
the big aquariums. Hope to build a house by this pond sometime. There aren't any flooding problems
so could build right on the edge of water. A porch
that I could dive into the pond off of, and a room
mostly below water level with one wall mostly an aquarium window......

McDonald's corporate headquarters in Chicago area has a resort of sorts. It has been many years since I stayed there, but if I recall correctly, the lodge was built against the lake (one side of wall is a conference room and other side is water). It seems like you could go out on a balcony overhanging the lake. There were lots of good size trees around. I remember walking across a bridge to an island and then across another bridge to hamburger university (there really is one - where they develop new selections). It was a neat experience and a little bit of sanity within all that humanity called a city. ;-)

I'd say if they can make those enclosed see through tunnels safe enough for lawsuit happy tourists to walk through tons of water and sharks, they can surely make a water tight wall for a fishing pond. Price might be a little wicked though...

If your water quality is good, you wouldn't be able to see over 18 to 24 inches. Scientifically appealing but not aesthetically.

I used a white weighted bucket lid hooked to a
plastic tape measure to check the
visibility of the water this afternoon. No
sunshine, about 1" ice, it was
visibile 4' 3".
