I made my own siphon system from 4" sch 40 and a bilge pump. If it rains no more than 3 or 4", I can drain my 1.5 acre pond overnight. I have the pipe buried shallow, bilge pump installed semi-permanent, and it's all neatly out of the way. 5-10 strokes on the pump, and the water just boils out of the 4" pipe until the pond is empty. Sure beats hauling a heavy pump and hoses every time it rains!
