I just learned how to properly cast an 8' cast net. Now I am wondering if I could use it to remove some of the 12" long bullhead catfish, possibly up to 24" catfish and carp. Does anyone have experience with these? I never really trusted that these nets will close properly below the enclosed fish without letting them escape from the bottom. Are some fish just too big to stay in there?

I once caught an 18" shark in a cast net when I was casting for shrimp and shad in Georgia. The only problem is that two or three big fish can get kinda heavy trying to drag through the water.

Lol, reminds me of the time I cought about a 4' shark while wading up to my chest. At first I was so excited and I was trying to reel him in. Once he got close and turned around, I almost walked on water, trying to get away from him.

If weight is the only problem, I should be fine.
As long as the fish stay in the net.

Got couple of 1' LMB and Bullhead cats, about 18" long channel. I think some fish are getting out the bottom, but overall I am catching bunch of fish. I should have learned this technique sooner.

Ed, i think there are different types of cast nets and some are easier to throw than others. what brand do you have, and how hard is it to use. don't remember the type i had but i gave it away , never got good at it.

I used a cast net quite a bit in the ocean for bait, then I started using it in my pond to catch BG to transplant in other ponds or use for big catfish bait in the river. Pretty effective, but I learned I need to stay away from the spawning beds. Very productive, but I can only imagine what I am doing to my breeding base.
