ric, i promise you, i was thinking the exact same thing about dudley. i've gotten to know dudley via emails as well, and he always has such words of encouragement and wise reflection. i was thinking about a comment like "dudley, how about a book like the .."Deep Thoughts, by Jack Handy"...but instead of course it would be "Deep Thoughts by Dirty Laundry, I mean Dudley Landry!" (saturday night live previously had a skit named deep thoughts by jack handy)
as far as military stuff, my dad was a naval pilot for 25 years and a Naval Academy grad, and great father. it was yes sir and no sir etc. I thought my name was come here "I'll beat that little A**) until i was about 15!!! Many times me and my siblings would ask my parents "why can't you just be our friend like so and so's parents?" dad would say, "son, i am not your friend, i'm your father. would a father beat that little a** like i'm about to?" as we got older, we understood, and had a foundation and discipline, then he was our friend. maybe hard to understand for some folks, but it worked; next to Jesus I think my dad is the most wonderful man that walked the earth. he explained to us often why, but then other times would say "because i said so"!! some of my friends would come over and ask my dad for advice before they headed off to boot camp. Dad would always say, "son, if it walks, salute it. If it doesn't, paint it". !!!!
