What would you folks consider an essential list of books on pond building and care? I would also be interested in a good aquatic plant book(s), aquatic insects, and of course books on warm water fish husbandry. I am located in the Pacific NW.
I have searched the net and found a few, but most seem to apply to small garden/koi ponds.

can't go wrong with all the pond boss books or the mag. it would be nice article , aquatic insects that live in ponds. be nice to know what lives in there. i have these oval beatles that swim on the water. they were on animal plants top ten unusaul bug. they have 4 sets of eyes , two on top , two on bottom. also have little sticks that move lol , i guess some bug attached to it. theres all kinds of stuff moving in there. 
i only wanted to have some fun

Hey Joe,, Try This. There are two buttons on the home page of this forum; left side for books. Click either one of them.
Ken - I am on the Pond Boss magazine editor's Future Articles List to produce several articles about all the different types of "criters & bugs" that live in ponds. The oval beetles and walking sticks will be included in each approprate article. The editor just has to determine what order of priority the articles should be in. Stay tuned to PBoss magazine; hopefully it will be getting even better.

Hey Joe, for warmwater fish husbandry I can recommend the following. Fish Hatchery Management, Second Edition, Gary A. Wedemeyer, editor, published by American Fisheries Society. It's $71 for hardcover and $56 for soft. http://64.224.98.53/publications/catbooks/x55040.shtml For private aquaculture, this book might be helpful. Fundamentals of Aquaculture: A Step-by-Step Guide to Commercial Aquaculture, by J. W. Avault, Jr. It's more expensive at $106, but commercial operations have different concerns than the hatchery management book listed first. From the website: "Acclaimed as one of the best textbooks on aquaculture, with international appeal. Very comprehensive and authoritative review of practical fish and shellfish culture, includes species, culture requirements, fertilization, feeds, health, nuisance control, production capacity, harvesting and processing, marketing, and starting a business.
