I have noticed an increase in the responses from Bob Lusk and Bill Cody that refer to researching past responses before asking specific questions. I am curious if there is going to be a change in the search engine soon. I am all for researching old topics but I have had problems finding comments that I remember making but I don't remember under what topic. People ask question under irrelevant topics some times.
I totally appreciate and respect the access to this forum, and I think the improved search engine would cut down on the questions that have already been dealt with.
I don't mean to ask for something for nothing but trust me I designed the web site for my company to answer the most commonly asked questions and believe me it pays for itself many times over.

Brian, I think most of us would like a better search engine.
Bob Lusk, we aren't complaining, it's that this forum and the magazine are so important to us. I personally would gladly send in $20 or whatever to help pay for this upgrade. Let us know what we can do to help make this happen.

To amplify Norm's comment, I'll chip in also.

Pitching in a little would not be a problem, but the point I was going for is that the improved search engine would free up some of Bob Lusk's and Bill Cody's time. Money can always be replaced and time can not. My main goal was to suggest that we use the pros time to solve the big problems and not work over the minor ones over and over.

This search engine follows the same general outline that a lot of others do. I expect that is a purchased package that may not be easy to modify and/or might not be legal to modify it.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys. I am currently working on a big project out of state, and will return to home base in two weeks (or so). I have contacted webmaster JP Greeson for a meeting at Pond Boss world headquarters upon my return. This topic will be at the top of the meeting agenda. Just for your information, when we changed the format of our forum two years ago, a big part of the reason we chose this software was the apparent ease of searching, and the speed which it would load. But, we also couldn't predict volumes of usage. So, I'll ask JP to do some homework about the forum software, then see what we have to do to better organize topics and search capabilities. No promises yet, other than an attempt to grant the wishes of such a deserving pond public.

Hard to believe it has been over 2 years since the format changed. Thanks for the good work trying to keep this forum the best for us.

Actually, as I recall, it was April, 2002.

If you have Ultimatebb version 6.X then,
Configure Search Options
1. Enter your UBB.classic™ software control panel.
2. Click Primary Settings.
3. Click the Search tab. From this page, you can globally enable/disable the search function, control what level of search can be performed, and configure the search index.
4. Click Submit Changes.
