My brother purchased some land in south mississippi near honey island swamp, which has many ponds that have kinda bracketed off through the years. There are soo many ponds out there at least 10 small one and 5 4+ acre. But the one I've just fallen for was a very deep 5 acre pond that has to be 100's of years old for the fact it's not man made and the creek that used to feed it from the river now is a long thicket. Well we fished it and i caught a 40 pound gar, a few huge bluegill, 4 2 lb black crappie, and anumber of 3-5 pound healthy bass. But we caught a fish we did not know what it was i'm hoping you could help me out because we cleaned it and the meat was not very good but it was 23 lb fish. It had a black spot on his tail with a orange circle. I think it was a bowfin not sure. I do know if it is we cleaned a world record. But my main topic is how can all these fish be plentiful and big with the size of the gar, bass, and bowfin? esp. the crappie and bluegill? This is a dream hole, I wish it was mine lol. Thanks
