I fish in a lake, 130 acres. In 2013 after a draining/ complete restocking of bream, bluegill, shad minnows early in the year and later what I think was black crappie and later bass were stocked. Another note this was done as the lake filled that year. All went well till the spring of 15 and there was a problem with the spillway and the lake was drained down about 1/2 way for repairs. This all took about year or more to get done and refill. The bass have done very well but the owners are somewhat disappointed with the crappie. They’ve been hard to find but what has been caught is about 8.5 to some 10 inchers. My questions are is the size of them about what would be expected with all that has gone on with the lake? Would the draw down have effected them in a negative way? Would “white” crappie have been a better choice to stock? My research shows they grower faster but I’m no crappie expert!
Thanks,

What size BCP did you stock? I stocked BCP in February 2014 at 4-1/2” and they spawned that same year( I was told that they were two years old) and the first spawned BCP are now 8-10”, so the ones you are catching might be the offspring of the original stockers

This is not my lake and I was not there at the time the crappie were stocked but I’m told they were about 2 inches at that time. Sounds like from your growth rate maybe these aren’t to bad off? Just was expecting more growth by now
Thanks!

Mark from what I can gather there is not a lot of info on crappie that I can see elusive little critters.
