Pond Boss Forums AQUATIC VEGETATION Identifying plants Help with ID Please

Looking at this in the pond next to our shop. I have no pond plants to speak of besides FA. I need something to put in that will take up some nutrients and provide my babies with some much needed shelter. I like the looks of this, its hard to control in this BOW because the banks are super steep. This and no one ever messes with it. It is run off from a gravel pit and has turned over many times in the past. They pump water from the pit into it.

It would be easy to control in my pond...What do you guys think? I can probably get a better pic if these are not good enough.

Looks like a type of water willow.

I'm seeing the similarities now that I've looked at some images. I have never actually seen it bloom. Many images show it in bloom.

Justicia americana seems to look the most like it.

Do you have personal experience with it?

Is there a archive post for pond vegetation that won't take completely over? If not, might be helpful?

Believe it to be smartweed. I looked at everything on A&M's site the looked similar. Water willow and Smartweed being the winners. The biggest difference are the willow leaves are opposite and the smartweed leaves are alternate. These are alternate. Both use rhizomes to spread...both have a narrow leaf around 1/2" wide...Flowers are different but these have none...Took a few better pics.

If not smartweed please advise.

Looks like if it is, it could cause more bird trouble due to the seeds...but I might get some ducks also.
