In March 2016 I put 100 4 inch perch in my one acre pond. Then for 17 months (Aug.2017) I never saw one pearch even though I feed my fish. Then I got this photo of a Great Blue Heron spearing this Perch. I was shocked at the size. The only fish I have in my pond are 5 grass carp & lots of Golden Shiners & Fatheads, frogs & turtles. Also the pond is full of Spatterdock that produces lots of bugs that feed my Red Wing Blackbirds. All I can think of is there is so much food that accelerate the growth of the Perch. After this photo the Heron flew to my floating island and swallow the Perch. I couldn't get my camera ready fast enough to get that picture.

You might be getting some YP egg strands about now John and maybe a spawn of new perch babies.
Maybe get your fishing pole out to see what you got?

That's what I am thinking also. Go out in the middle and drop a line. I was wondering if the experts have seen this kind of growth. I thought this was impossible.

Fish with a worm right on the bottom of the pond. You should be able to pick up a few perch that way in the spring.
We have been trying to evaluate our perch to see where they are at with the spawn but the shiners are taking the bait first. 11 different shiners in an hour on the weekend.
