A little feeding over winter is a very good idea when you can get them to eat (warming spells). Winter, in areas where it gets cold, is a tough time for fish. They use up food reserves (lipids , carbs and protein). A little extra food over winter allows them to come into spring in better condition. That can make a big difference in reproductive success. Likewise it is good to feed in fall when the fish are trying to pack on weight for winter food reserves.
