what scales do you recommend for weighing your fish? i would like one that will weigh fish less than a pound and also lock the weight after it is weighed.

I use this one from Cabelas. It works well, and locks in the weight until clear button pushed.

I use a postal scale that will weigh under a pound and up to 50 pounds. In my opinion the smartest thing I did was get one that could also run on batteries. You can carry it anywhere on the pond or even out in a boat if needed. They are very inexpensive. Think I paid about $30.

I agree!! One thing I've seen hatcheries do is put the scale inside a clear plastic bag to minimize any water getting on the scale. You can get zip loc bags in 2 1/2 gallon size, and I believe they are available in larger sizes commercially.

Would be super interested to hear if you've decided on an option yet! Some great ideas in this thread, and I'm currently i nthe same situation. I've been looking at some of the waterproof MWS scales recently (from here: https://www.meltrons.com/collections/scales) and can't quite make up my mind - anyone have any experience with waterproof scales and exactly how 'waterproof' these things are?

Also, loving those DiY additions, N.TexasHalfAcre! Might have to pinch them for my project...

I have the cabelas scale mentioned in earlier post and mine quit working pretty quickly and not sure how accurate it would be at weights below a pound compared to the postal scale. I did the exact copy of texashalfacre and it is great, thanks again. and it maybe cost $40 total from amazon. Couple of pics of fish I weighed last week in my new pond. they have some bellies on them.

i still haven't ordered one. i wanted something kinda small that i could leave on the gator. i looked online, but i don't see where it states what the smallest weight they will measure, i want it to go below a pound for some of the bg. i don't know why though. i am fishing for 2 lb bg..haha

What about a food scale?

Food scales are nice and small. The only problem with them is that most of them max out at 1 or 2 pounds. For some people that may be enough. If you are wanting to weigh things with a wide range of sizes the postal scale is the way to go in my opinion. I know they are larger, but not too bad.

Yes I have a weight watchers scale that is very good to the ounce although is was fairly expensive. I only use for my BG I have a nice Berkley I use for my Bass and HSB.

I think it was around 50 bucks but any decent scale is gonna cost you 30 to 50 dollars....
