Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations heavy rain

in the last 2 days we have gotten heavy rain.my pond is discharging alot of water,the water is probably 12 inches high and flowing out very good.my question:is this good for a pond to flush it out every once in a while are does it do more harm than good.it will yake about 3 days to get down to normal level again.i'm thinking this might help the oxygen level and flush out bad water.thanks

We've been getting the same thing in East Texas. My unscientific opinion is that it is healthy on the long term but may have some short term negatives such as washing out/diluting fertilizer. I'm also concerned about losing the fry of the fatheads, left over threadfin shad, and possibly game fish fry by being carried out over the spillway. I notice a lot of small fry seem to like to hang out in the shallow water of the spillway and they are probably carried off in these downpours. Still, its better than last spring when we received little or no rain heading into the dry summer.
