Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations world record bass

I am again hearing rumor of a bass(large mouth) tipping the scales at 23lbs in California. Has anyone heard about this. I went out on line to see if there was any news of a new record and dont see any thing. I figure its bull like many of the other past stories.

You may be referring to a fish caught in Santa Rosa. It was submitted for recognition but rejected due to lack of conclusive proof. It is the second very large fish caught from the same fairly small lake in the last few years. There has been a lot of local publicity about these catches and they certainly are very large bass in the pictures. There have been a number of 20+ lb LMB caught in California in recent years, I'm sure the record is swimming around out here and it is just a matter of time until someone breaks the record officially.

Big Jake did you see that in GOA magazine? If you notice it said caught on April 1. I think that should tell us enough. I did the samething with a search. We would have heard about if true. If I lived in Cal I think I would fish the heck out of these lakes it sounds like someone will be a millionaire soon if they can catch"him".

Greg, would catching a record size bass actually put you in a position to be a millionaire? Endorsements and such? (If so maybe I need to move to Cali.) I can think of worse things to spend time at then trying for a lunker. Has to be just as good of odds as the lottery.

I don't think living on the left coast would be worth it :p

I was born in the Bronx and now live a mile and half from my mailbox in northern California. A strange tale I won't bore you with, but what you say has a lot of truth - living here tries the patience of any moderately sane person.

I was born in LA and spent many years in San Diego. Fished Lake Castaic, Miramar, San Vicente all quality waters that have produced 20 plus pound fish. Left there 8 1/2 years ago when I retired from the Navy and don't miss it a bit. It's nice to drive down the road here and have 90 oercent of the people wave at you. My inlaws just sold their house in San Diego about half the size of mine on a lot smaller than my pond for $525,000! No thank you I'll just enjoy catching lots of 5 - 10 pound bass here in Bama.

pottsy if you beleive what you read then the world record bass will make you a millionaire many times over. You should get endorsements on all your fishing gear down to your wrangler jeans, and what sunscreen you were wearing.

Hey Jim, no sane person wants to live in the Bronx these days!! I work there every day, and the only way I keep my sanity is thinking of being up on my pond fishing and cracking a Corona.

I lived in the Bronx in the fourties, Throggs Neck, in fact it actually was quite nice then. It would be interesting to revisit that neighborhood today! Since I was the 3rd, I was called "Little Jimmy", wouldn't qualify today.

Jim, actually Throggs Neck has held up pretty well (by today's standards). There aren't any more undeveloped lots though. Fishing in the LI Sound must have been great back then, it was bad back in the late 70's early 80's, but it's come back. We commonly catch 15- 20 lb Stripers and Blues under the bridges and off Fort Totten.

You're right. We used to get on a party boat at City Island and depending on what we were after often didn't have to go very far for some great fishing. I remember as a kid catching bags full of flounder which was distributed to family and friends. If I remember correctly, head boat fees were about $3 or $4. Many of the boats were converted PT boats and would have 30 - 40 fishermen aboard - winning the pool of $20 - $30 was a very big thing! I remember the big ads in the paper advertising the boats, I'm sure the Bronx Queen will strike a familiar note.
