Pond Boss Forums MANAGING AN EXISTING POND Feeding Does anyone move their feeder around??

I figure this has been hashed out before. I have built a floating feeder much like RC's and have had great luck with it. I'm curious on the number of fish and location. I've got it sitting on the shallow end of the pond, in probably 3-4' of water...but all the way on the other side I have lots of GSF and BG along with beds. I do not figure all those fish come over and eat when the feeder goes off. How about during the hot of the summer?? Would moving to deeper water benefit anything?

I have my feeder set so it throws feed over a 3'-5' deep shelf, and then it will almost immediately float over a 10' deep area. The smaller fish feed in the shallower area and the bigger fish come to the surface in the deeper water.

I haven't moved the feeder location in 9 years. Fish on beds will ignore the food.

I did not realize fish on beds would ignore it. Should I move it to where there is access to the deeper water?? I'm probably 100' from the deeper water.

Fish on beds will not ignore the food if thrown on top of them lol... I've done this several times and they will smack it, but they are not going to swim out several feet for anything that's for sure...

Ask yourself peach do you have any beds over by the feeder?? I bet not why? Because the fish on beds don't want to deal with anymore fish than they have to so they get away from the high traffic....

I have moved mine some but not very far, like 10 feet left or right then last year I moved mine out farther. I would say in in about 7 foot of water now. Don't worry the other fish will come back around to it.

P.S. Don't quote me on this but I think I remember n8ly saying you really should have 2 feeders per acre....least I think that's what he said..

I may move mine to the deeper end. I can't do more than one feeder...lol. I would love to though! I guess I want to get the most bang for my buck.

Here is another question then...how deep of water is everyone feeding in? RC is in about 7 ft...I'm in 3-4, I know everyone is not floating their feeder...but many are on docks...I do not have one that blows the feed...I'm sure that helps. Mine is an american hunter 6v on a remington barrel floating...so it doesn't throw super far.

That would mean 14 feeders for my BOW. I might be able to afford that, but only if I stopped buying feed.

LOL... I hear ya!! I swear that's what he said though. Of course that's for ultimate feeding and a LOT more fish get food for lack of competition.

Speaking of Nate, has anyone heard if and when his show will air again??

Our show Lake Life will air again on July 24th on DIY network if I am not mistaken. They are playing re-runs all through this summer.

I have one TH feeder per acre and the feeder that is in 4 to 5' of a shallow flat water that has fewer cnbg at it. The other feeders are at 4 to 5' but a flip or two of their tail puts them in 10 to 12' and has way more cnbg at them along with hsb and larger lmb.

That really makes me wonder if I need to move it. My pond is similar to a swimming pool. It has a shallow end then gets deep towards the levee. Its was not built like it should've been. But it is what it is and I'm making the best of it. I have a large shallow end...shallow being 3-5 feet of water.

I think I may try it over at the transition area. I also have some sunken truck tires over in that area. I've read on lots of threads on how long and what people feed...just havent read much about at what depth they are throwing their feed and observations of what depth does the most good.

Mine is in 8' and throws all the way out to 15' and when the feeder goes off they look like a school of piranha hitting it. Feeder runs for 10 seconds and is all gone in less than 15 seconds

Mine is on a dock in about 3 foot and throws out to about 8 ft. water. I do 3 second bursts 5 minutes apart. 3 in the AM and 3 in the PM. I have kept mine cut back some because of poor water clarity and what I believe to be a strong algae bloom. Been in the same spot for 2 years but my pond is only 2 acres.

I stand in the same place and chunk feed in and around the same ol' spots.
