Welp.. I figured to browse the site a while, but, in the meantime, just stepping in and saying howdy from Texas!

I do not know if I will even have the ability to add a pond to our house....but, heck, still fun to look and dream about it wink
The idea was that some day we might be able to buy the place behind us, but the neighbor, evidently, does not have the same outlook and that will probably never happen :P

We moved into the new house last year and the people next door also own the lot behind us. The water run-off goes right through our tract and into their.. "hole"...which is supposed to be a pond, but does not hold water and has some sort of island in the middle, no idea why they added that.

Anyway, we only have 1.9 acres and are set back a bit. I looked at the land and I think we might be able to add a pond if we pushed it, but not sure. We also have an aerobic septic.. so that may just kill the entire idea.. heh

oops.. hit enter.

Anyway, here is the picture of the house and septic area.

Would LOVE some crappie.. catfish.. but at half an acre-ish if I am lucky, doubt I could get more than catfish.

Oh well, fun dreaming wink

Howdy and thanks for the forum!

Oh, will add a photo when I find a place to upload it.

Welcome to the PBF Russ,

That's the way it all started out for us. A dream a maybe and a I hope so! And look at us now!! lol

Looks like you have the room for a nice little pond, question is can you have one.... and with that said I will let the experts take over and ask a few questions. Your gonna have to make sure that there ground can hold water first thing....

Good Luck man and once again welcome!

Welcome to the forum.

I would get with the person that does the annual inspection on the septic system first. They'll know the rules pertaining to water runoff, safe distances, etc, when dealing with aerobic septic systems.

Second thing I would do is get a good soil assessment. If your neighbor's pond leaks, then there's a probability that your soil is the same, and may require extra effort to keep it from leaking also.

Russ, welcome. The above responses pretty well covered what I was thinking. My only input is that you could check into a lined pond and maybe settle for a bit smaller. I have a 1/4 pond and have nice HSB, and caught a 7.2# CC last yr. have plenty of nice YP, SMB and WE, Of course those are all cold water fish so would'nt work for your location. Just sayin ya can raise a lot of nice fish in a small BOW. Do lots of research and fire away with ?

Thanks guys. Sorry for the slow responses.. super busy and trying to finish a few projects heh.

So, spoke with the septic guy and he says 50ft from where it sprays, which I can have spray 180 degrees to cut down on that direction. That being said, looking at what I guess, roughly, to be about .4-.48 of an acre, thereabouts.

Still, like I said, pipe dream. I tend to research the heck out of stuff to know every aspect I can before I move, but...again.. still not sure the pond would not "eat up" my entire lot since I only have like 2 acres.

I'll know better when I am done with the barn and can actually break out the 300' tape measure and see what will fit :P

Thanks, and still reading a lot!

Russ
