Has anyone had luck catching YP on spinners in their ponds. I planted 30 YP last year and haven't caught any on anything. I haven't seen any either. They don't join the BG when I feed. Perhaps none survived.

I've rigged two Mepps "0" sized silver bladed, bucktail spinners 12" to 18" apart, tipped one point of each treble with a Crappie Nibble, floating Trout Worm (Berkeley), or red wiggler and caught many YP from my pond. The smaller LMB nail one or the other of the Mepps too.
I rarely get BG or GSF on this rig strangely enough.
It seems to be a lot of bother for perch, but when something else doesn't work, I'll fall back on this combo.

I used to think the same thing. My YP hit better very early, or fairly late. I catch them on a pretty small jig with a 1" section of worm hanging off the hook. I run it fairly slow and deep. All the ones I catch have been hitting my fish food, but I never see them feeding. I've been told they come up from deeper water hit it, and go back down. It's impossible (for me) to actually see them.

In the spring they hit the worms more then the spinners I have found. Then they move to the leaches after the water warms. Mid summer to fall they will hit the spinners more and minnows on jigs on the bottom. Mostly the exactly same with the walleye too but found in the fall walleye will hit top water frog baits too.

What you describe is common in my pond also. I have several YP and the only way I can usually see them feed is to be standing up on a boat so I can look down and watch one area at a time. They are very fast at coming up, grabbing a pellet, and rolling back down in deeper water. I also rarely catch one. I've tried a piece of worm on a hook just off bottom and never caught one. I think part of my problem is the aggressiveness of my HB which generally take the hook pretty quick. I do have maybe half a dozen brave ones between 8 and 12 inches that will feed right next to the shore and are not shy about cruising around next to the surface. I suspect you still have your YP as I have found them pretty hardy unless you have predators big enough to eat them.

YP on Silver Bladed Mepps #2 or #3 spinners is my all time favorite! Caught hundreds this way over 4 decades.

Stubby Steves pellets usually work for me in my pond. But I've caught them on many different things. 1" curly tail grubs on a jig head, 4" soft plastic jerk bait, etc.

My YP disdain spinners and fake lures.

Worms are a hit, as well as sticking a wad of fish food on a small hook. I could probably fish my pond clean of perch on worms alone.

I'm surprised how aggressive my perch feed, they are competing with HSB and HBG, and eventually SMB but I didn't expect to witness them feeding as often as I do. They do hit the top and go right back down. Have had luck with small spinners but mostly small grubs , fish food, worms, or even small shrimp on a hook...( shrimp works for the HSB and HBG as well )
