CC, here in Northern Indiana the RES spawn the same time as BG. They also spawn at the same depth of water, but in some lakes they spawn shallower, some lakes a bit deeper. Pumpkinseeds also spawn at the same time, although they are not colony nesting fish like BG/RES.
In the local lake and in my pond, the RES spawn in shallower water than the BG, sometimes in water less than 12" deep.
Around here, both BG and RES prefer pea gravel over sand to make their nests in.....
