I have two 3 acre ponds on my property that have similar pH's both fluctuating around 7.4-8.5 depending on time of day. I have really struggled to get the the alkalinity up. right now its right around 20ppm in both ponds.

In hopes of a quick fix I added Calcis to both ponds and saw significant bump in calcium hardness and a little bump in alkalinity. I'd like to be in the 50-60ppm range and realize it's not an overnight fix.

Is it too aggressive to add 5 tons to the acre and then possibly repeat application in the fall? I'd like to correct situation and not have to lime annually.

Really struggle with getting a good bloom, but man am I good at growing FA! Hoping that by raising the Alkalinity it will work on the FA a little too... Cutrine Plus orders are killing me.

Have your water and dirt tested to id the limiting factor. Do you have high water flow through ? You could add ag lime and that would help for a time as you noted but it may not fix the problem long term as water reflects the soil.

Low densities overall, < 200 cells/mL, but good types to have in general

Some Synura, Scenedesmus, Chlorella, Elakatothrix and Cryptomonas.

Min. of 20 and best range is between 75 and 200.

Two suggestions from my own experience...

One, if your budget can handle it, use more ag lime than officially recommended. You can't use too much.

Two, have the ag lime worked into the soil. Disc it, preferably.
