In a flood, most fish try to go upstream. Only those close to a discharge seem to be sucked through the overflow.

I had the same situation at my pond a couple of years ago. The hole that the discharging water created a pretty good sized hole. When everything settled down, I put a trap in. I caught a bunch of small BG and GSF. Then I checked with a neighbor who had a previously barren small pond about 150 yards down from mine. We seined but found only smaller fish. If the same holds true for you, your loss should be minor.
