Hey all! Any tips or advice while preparing for the big stocking? My fish are being delivered in a week and im trying to make sure all is ready for them. Info on the pond is; 3/4 acre heart shaped, 3:1 slope max depth 15ft, no aeration.. Yet.., lots of cinder block for cover an several pvc fish trees in pond, along with three christmas trees. The pond was stocked at half pool in september an fhm are significant. Any tips i should be aware of feel free to letme know. Happy ponding to you all as spring is here!

Check for hitch hikers in the bag if you are picking the fish up in bags from the fish dealer. At minimum look over each bag a minute or two to see if you can see any "off" looking fish that might indicate it is the wrong species.

Other than that, it is an exciting day. Take pictures and have fun. Good luck!

I will be stocking some of the fish in my pond starting this weekend and next weekend. been waiting a long time for this day and it is finally here. not sure how reputable your fish supplier is, but I am going to hand sort all my fish. mainly just because I don't want a regular bluegill in my pond or any other unwanted fish. I will stock more FHM and GSH sunday. take some pics and share them. good luck.

not sure with the colder temps, but you may need to acclimate the fish a bit if the water temp in truck is much different.
how many of each fish you getting and who is the supplier?

Yeah I'm hoping we get the fish acclimated. Not sure how it will go down yet. I went with Jones fish in Cincinnat. I purchased fhm an shiners last fall and I was impressed with their Cindy location. I did like their fish package ratios they were fairly close to familiar Numbers ive noticed here on pondboss as far as numbers of fish per size of pond. I went with a half acre Midwest accelerated package as u can find in their online catalog. However my fish will be larger(4-7 inches varying)my pond is a little over 3\4 acre so I know even if the fish Numbers maybe a little high per species ( predator\prey).I'll still have plenty of room for growth an space for forage fish to hide.Sounds like a decent plan to me haha hope it works.
