Yep, the old school analog thermostats (was there a bubble of mercury or liquid silver in there?) came in the gold/silver variety. They probably were a hazard of some type.

The round digital version you have only comes in white. So, rattle can, or paint it with a foam brush to match your wall color or just leave it as is.

We got half an inch of snow, temp about 12 degrees F, and pond is half covered with new ice.

Technically yesterday...but with a couple inches of snow the kids did some sledding off the dam's hillside...pond is probably 4-5 ft deep right now, need to get the dock installed ASAP... Need to figure out how to post pictures in the post w/o link...Pond looks nice with snow all around and not mud and clay...

A first for me this morning. Looking out at ducks swimming around in open water on our big pond. It's easy got 7-8 acres of ice covering it.

Even if you get the outtermost or as many of the posts set as you can, you will be way ahead of the game compared to building the whole thing in a full pond. I would at least try to get the post set while you have dry ground.

Haven't posted in a while, been busy with family/work and and having fun. Hope this isn't to long, but thought it was very interesting so I tried it today. One of the ladies my wife has worked with for years, told my wife the first of December that her boyfriend and her bought 2 cut Christmas trees at local Rural King. They put one in house and kept it watered. The other they planted in their front yard. She told my wife that her brother-in -law has done this in past with the trees he used for his Christmas tree (6 years worth). I drove by the ladies house and seen the new tree and it looks great in her yard(green as can be and healthy looking). So by accident I was tell the guys at work about it and no one ever heard of doing it except for one guy, and he said that's funny you mentioned this replanting of Christmas trees because when I took my kids to buy our tree this year at the tree farm where you buy already cut or cut your own trees he asked the owner what he did with the cut trees he didn't sell. His answer was (I replant them) so my mind got thinking and I told my son to save his tree I wanted to try it this year. So we are going to get about 5 days of rain here in Indiana next few days so I just planted the tree he gave me(it has been sitting in about 6 inches of water at ponds edge since week after Christmas. I think they look great around pond landscape since they put no leaves in pond in fall. Just thought this was very interesting, because if it works I can get all I want free after Christmas each year and already 5 to 7 feet tall. I will post about every couple months on how tree is doing. Worth a try to me. PO

I set out 4 body grip traps and 2 leg grip traps today in an attempt to catch another beaver. Had caught one last year, but I guess my troubles are not over with regards to beavers. I was standing near the bank the other day and a beaver surfaced about 4' from me. I don't know who jumped higher, the beaver or me....ha! Anyway, I can't afford having her dig holes in my levee.

Hand fed 3 different sizes of Triton (Cargill) fish pellets from the dock. It's very interesting that the 3 distinct sizes of fish will hit the 3 distinct sizes of pellets only, directly proportional in size.

Well here is what we did this weekend.

Made a nice home made cedar gun rack in the cabin closet complete with ammo shelf and area for your binoculars.



Then we set a new platform for the new stationary dock we are going to build while the water is down so it can get nice and setup. The new dock is going to be 4x16 walkway with a 8x12 deck attached to the end of the walkway. Cant wait to get it done!!!

Thanks Stick it took 13 / 80lbs bags of concrete to make that slab and we had quite a bit of filler rocks... I forgot how much fun mixing 80 bags of concrete is. lol It wasn't easy but it will be well worth it. Were gonna make the entire dock out of 2x6 treated lumber. Course the posts will be galvanized posts with adjustable dock sleeves to raise and lower the dock as needed. I for sure will take pics as we go and post them...

This morning, on the ice, in the pouring rain! Minnesota 2/20/2017 and I had to wear rain gear. Weird weather.

As a neighborhood joke, when it stops raining, I may pull out the lawn tractor and make it look like I'm cutting the grass. That should confirm to my neighbors how nuts I am.

I feel you...that's what it took (13) to pour the slab for the pump house (except mine were 50's not 80's). Yes, I mixed in a wheel barrow with a shovel and a garden rake. It came out decent, but man, that's some work by hand. Well, you did an impressive job. The dock is gonna be nice when completed. Hope you post some pics.

I did a 13 bagger (80 lbs each) slab, mixing in a wheelbarrow, in the spring of 2014 to fix a broken sidewalk. It was HARD work, but turned out well.

Overachievers, I just threw out some optimal jr to my 2-3 inch BG. This week however I would like to fill in 2 washouts from the last bad storm that dropped 8 in of rain in one afternoon.

Yes I will post pics for sure! We already have all the dock hardware we just have to start buying the wood. I would say we will start probably second week in March or so.

Too cold and windy today. Great time in Indy to visit the Deer, Turkey, and Waterfowl Expo, and the Boat, Sport, and Travel Show with the family. I am expecting it to be crowded though.

I think I've already lost my mountain man cred this morning.

My wife spotted an otter(first we've ever seen here) bolting across the hay meadow towards the big pond this morning. I'm sure I was quite the sight running across the pasture in my PJ's and house shoes, trying to cut him off with a shotgun we leave by the front door.

We've got the beavers handled around here, but I guess a new adventure starts today.
