I read somewhere or was told somewhere on this forum that running an aerator in the winter is harmful to your pond because it allows the CO2 in your pond to escape with the aeration and then the plants die/suffer for lack of CO2.
I think most people run their aerator in the shallows with the goal of leaving a small refuge for their fish to prevent winter kill.
I have not heard that plants run out of CO2 under the ice either with or without aeration (meaning a winterkill for plants due to CO2 supply problems)
