I worked 35 years at the same place, through three changes of management. I cannot say it was easy, or always enjoyable, (it was more enjoyable than not) but I am grateful I was able to retire at 61 from a business with the last conventional retirement I personally know of, and have enough assets to have a little land and a pond. My wife worked 33 years in the medical field, and her last 15 years or so was positively miserable.
