Well folks, I have retired!! Its was a long and productive career but looking forward to spending a lot more time at the farm and the ponds. Now i get to go to the country and get out of the DFW area. I'm not sure what's next for me but I do know it's going to be fun!
It's true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the chance?

It is better than you even imagine.
At least it has been for me. I loved my career and knew what I wanted to be from the 5th grade on. But after 45 or 50 years of it, retirement has sure been enjoyable to do some of the other things I wanted to do while making a living but time and money were always limiting factors.
It is nice.

The Good Brian, congrats.
I've been retired 4 years now, and like snrub, I couldn't imagine how much I would enjoy it. Taking out at 56, and still having some good years left, was well worth any financial changes.

I worked 35 years at the same place, through three changes of management. I cannot say it was easy, or always enjoyable, (it was more enjoyable than not) but I am grateful I was able to retire at 61 from a business with the last conventional retirement I personally know of, and have enough assets to have a little land and a pond. My wife worked 33 years in the medical field, and her last 15 years or so was positively miserable.

"Enough assets". Me too, as long as I don't spend it. Yes, one has to learn to live within smaller means than when working in order to make "assets" last through expected retirement years. It helps to make a reasonable retirement possible if one lives frugally through working years. In that case, retirement won't entail any major lifestyle changes, other than saving far less while spending about the same.

I'm 58 and was lucky at the first shop I worked for had a conventional profit sharing plan and when I started my shop, we did the same thing. I ended up with a pretty good chunk of $$. I'm really looking forward to doing thing that before, time didn't allow.

Wishing u the best. The problem I have run into in early retirement is finding others that can go on fishing or hunting trips. Most others are limited in funds or still working. And I wonder, how much put back is enough? It Depends, does that sound familiar?
Do not judge me by the politicians in my City, State or Federal Government.

Thank again. I plan on transforming my big pond into a real pond this spring. Rex got in good shape as far as the water chemistry so it's time for a lot of things I wasn't going to do until it cleared up. It's time!
